Joining the social networks, HD has rolled onto Facebook. We’ve added the page to the links section so you know where to find them, if you’re a Facebook fan.
Harley’s addition to the social networks reflects the changing demographics of Harley riders, which now includes more women and professionals than ever before.
As you would expect, the Facebook page is well done and full of original news and plenty of photos. I predict it will quickly become one of the #1 pages at Facebook - the news was just released today and there are already 15,000 Harley “friends” signed up!
With Harley-Davidson technicians in chronically short supply, Lake Washington Technical College this fall will launch an associate degree program in Harley-Davidson maintenance.
Lake Washington is only the third community college in the nation to offer the degree. The two other colleges, in North Carolina and Kansas, have experienced strong enrollments for their programs.
According to Dale Cone, manager of Harley-Davidson’s technical training program, Harley-Davidson sells about 300,000 bikes a year, but only 4,700 trained Harley-Davidson technicians are employed in the United States.
Susan Carpenter attends the 2008 Harley Davidson Launch in Baltimore, and becomes one of the first riders to straddle a Rocker C. Still, she asks “Why so much attention to the rear end?”
Retiring a huge (45 million euros) debt for Italian motorcycle company, MV Agusta Group, Harley-Davidson has penned an agreement to purchase the Italian motorcycle maker for about 70 million euros. Agusta is privately held, with the Castiglioni family owning 95% of shares.
Agusta has significantly slowed production in 2008 due to financial difficulties. Harley-Davidson chief executive officer, Jim Ziemer, said the acquisition was primarily to expand Harley-Davidson’s presence and footprint in Europe.
More than 140 motorcycles are on display at the new H-D Museum in Milwaukee and will open on July 12th of this year.
The exhibits are housed on the ground floor and mezzanine level of a 35,000-square-foot space on the grounds of museum complex, located at South Sixth and West Canal streets, in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley. We hear it’s absolutely awesome. Early reporters say there’s an unbelievable amount of mementos and memorabilia the company has saved over the years, all on display.
Grab your helmets and head towards Milwaukee this summer. The museum opening will be something you’ll tell your grandkids about. If you already have grandkids, bring ‘em along and let them tell THEIR grandkids!
If you’re new to Harley ownership and you bought a used bike, you probably need to start your maintenance and repair inventory by purchasing the Harley Tools and Manuals. That is, if you plan on doing your own repair work. Harleys are reliable - that’s why we like ‘em. But we also like to tinker with things, don’t we?
Make sure your bike is ready for the Harley 105th Anniversary Parade in Milwaukee (that’s Wisconsin, for those of you who aren’t terribly familiar with the geography of your own country) on August 30th this year.
